No evidence for Foetal Lobulation of the Spleen
31-03-2023
We are happy to share that our paper entitled ‘Morphological variations of the human spleen: no evidence for a multifocal or lobulated developmental origin‘ is now published in The British Journal of Radiology!
We studied both adult as fetal and embryonic spleens using (Micro-)CT imaging and found that splenic morphology is highly variable, independent of developmental stage and age. We suggest to abandon the term “persistent foetal lobulation” and to regard splenic clefts, regardless of their number or location, as normal variants.
